About
Sarah Rockower earned her B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2005. She has worked in a variety of media including textiles, photography, and metalwork, but primarily and most consistently, paint on canvas.
Interested in the constant shifts and changes between ourselves and our environment, Sarah is captivated by the details of surface as it moves in nature. Using unprimed raw canvas, she mixes acrylic paint and water in spilling cascades, allowing the pigment to run and flow: a celebration of the encounter of liquid, surface, and gravity.
The results offer immersion into a watery world–an embodied reflection of the common substance of space, everywhere between and among us. Within this immensity, there is always a moment that emerges as distinct: a release, a collision, or the quiet movement that follows.
