In the heart of the pandemic, Sarah and Ben found themselves in a cozy family "pod"—a bubble of shared meals, daily chaos, and unexpected creativity. It was during this time that Sarah redirected her lifelong painting practice. As she began sharing her new creations with the pod, Ben was immediately captivated by her work.

Inspired by her passion and the powerful connection he felt to her art, Ben floated the idea that they start a business together. That spark led to the creation of Sarah Rockower Studio, LLC — a collaboration built on creativity, admiration, and friendship.

Sarah Rockower: Fine Art Painter

Sarah has loved to draw, paint, and make things for as long as she can remember. One of seven children, she grew up in a creative and buzzing household. Homeschooled through most of her childhood, Sarah had a unique introduction to art through her teachers who were painting majors attending a nearby university.

Although she intended to major in painting at RISD, Sarah followed an unexpected calling toward textiles. She was drawn to the tactile, timeless nature of the craft which involved spinning yarn, weaving, dyeing, and printing on fabric. Her experience in textile design continues to shape her understanding of how art, craft, and design can intersect.

Yet painting has remained a constant. Through the years, her aesthetic evolved, eventually drawing her with full force into her current practice of abstract painting.

Departing from the traditional practice of painting on primed canvas, Sarah chose to leave the raw canvas exposed- a decision rooted in her love for textiles and a desire to honor the woven texture as an integral, visible element of the work. Another departure from tradition was utilizing watercolor techniques with acrylic paint. This approach resulted in a more translucent, fluid effect, in contrast to the typically opaque, flatter appearance of acrylics. Through trial and exploration, Sarah eventually discovered a rhythm in her process, culminating in the fluid, abstract compositions showcased on this site.

Sarah loves to paint with her daughter, Eloise. In addition to making art and pursuing numerous craft projects, they love long and chatty walks, picnicking, and dancing with hula hoops.

Benjamin Bauman: Studio Manager

In addition to managing the day-to-day magic that is Sarah Rockower Studio, Ben is both an actor and a lifelong tech nerd. On screen and stage, he has brought a wide range of characters to life in film, television, and his first love— theater, where the energy of live performance and the joy of creativity expands his inner-Ben.

For almost thirty years, Ben studied the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique with world-renowned teacher, Lenard Petit. From Lenard, Ben learned that creating characters could be approached in a playful, fun, energetic, and almost spiritual way. Len taught Ben that his only limitation was his imagination, and that his imagination was limitless!

As a Nerd, Ben provides tech support to home users and small businesses through his company, RipJoy Tech!

In his spare time, Ben enjoys: cooking and hosting dinner parties, visiting Art Museums, Oysters & Martinis, Meditation, Graceland (the album), The Beach, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, Back to the Future, The Poconos, Dressing up and looking fancy! Tequila & Steak, Sparkly things and stuff that glows, Yoga, Miller's Crossing, seeing Bald Eagles in the wild, Battlestar Galactica, Motherpeace Tarot, manual transmissions, Bob Dylan, Sailing, Garlic, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, making flower arrangements, LEGOs, Pure Beeswax Candles, Seltzer, Patagonia (the brand), Peter Tosh, Appreciation, The Far Side, What We Do in the Shadows, Abraham Hicks, Cats and Dogs, and much, much more!
